RamTajam is.....
... the expression of a multi-coloured musical journey encompassing Folk, African, Celtic, Funk and AfroBeat influences all blended into the sound of an acoustic 6 string Banjo with some touches of harmonica and a genuine street music attitude that brings together sounds from across the world in an eclectic mix of music that transcends genres and borders...
Biography
Ram is an Italian born musician, composer and songwriter based in Edinburgh, Scotland. Throughout a career that spans over 12 years, he has performed in several countries around the world in the most diverse settings and venues, been a founding member of a number of bands and collectives, and taken part in Edinburgh's Fringe Festival's Street Events every year since 2011. Developing his style originally on acoustic and electric guitar with a solid Blues and Folk foundation, he devoted the last few years exploring diverse music traditions that influenced his research towards a unique blend of World Music that retains its original blues-based approach while expanding on the roots of folk traditions from America, Asia and Africa. Today his repertoire includes 1970s blues and folk-rock songs as well as his increasingly diverse own compositions, which he performs under his solo act stage name "RamTajam". In 2009 he started "The Incredible Monkey Birds" , his first band, with Spanish drummer Javi Patillas, later joined by Congas and Bass Guitar. The band performed widely on the streets and several venues their Latin rock repertoire until disbanding in 2010. Several years later in 2016 he joined Omar Afif's Gnawa Trancefusion, alongside several other members, and developed a unique fusion of Gnawa (North African Traditional Music) and other genres. During the same year he joined Zelio Muya's project "Ramuyapiko", further expanding on African influences on the electric guitar. Since 2011 he has entertained countless international crowds of visitors at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with his three piece band The Spinning Blowfish, joined by David Spiers on bagpipes and his brother Narayan on the drums. The Spinning Blowfish has also performed in several local venues, including Stramash and the Jazz Bar, and at the Scottish Green Energy Awards at the National Museum of Scotland in December 2011, released their debut album "The Mr. Tillas Show" in December 2018, and sold over 20,000 discs worldwide. During the album's production, they have invited Ram's friend and artist collaborator Alex Zampini from Berlin to produce a short documentary about the "Making of" of the album, which has been sent to the most generous supporters of their crowdfunding campaign. Among other projects born in the last few years, another notable one is the power trio Mendigoz, formed during a previous visit to Australia, where Ram was joined by brother Narayan on the drums and blues guitarist and singer Simone Carugati. The group went on to record their first self-titled full length album of covers and original material in August 2015. In 2018 he established creative bonds with Indonesian musicians Redy Eko Prasetyo and Gabriel Drannoktah, previously met during a visit to East Java several years before, and started remote work collaborations during the pandemic through 2020 and 2021. In recent years Ram has expanded his repertoire with the addition of harmonica and Irish whistle, both featured on his debut solo album "Every Wall Must Fall", which was finally released in December 2021. He is currently in the production stage of his second solo album....
